Students from Duchess's Community High School in Alnwick were successful at the VEX IQ Robotics challenge.

The Duchess’s Community High School ‘A’ team managed the highest score of the day in the North East heat of the VEX IQ Robotics challenge.

The team included Joe Bottomer, Will Thompson, Ben Allan, Cat Metcalf and Kate Scoble.

Teams from 17 schools competed with partner schools to score points in a number of technical challenges, including driver skills and robot design.

The Alnwick team had been languishing near the bottom of the competition after eight rounds of technical challenges but pulled it out of the bag in the final round to book their place in the national final in Telford in March.

Further success would reward them with a trip to the international finals in Louisville, Kentucky, USA, in April. Thanks are given to Alnwick Masons and Metrology Software Products for their sponsorship.
