AN Alnwick housing development has secured its first retailer.
The Gentoo development on Clayport Street has completed its first letting leasing the a 17,253 sq ft let to Wilkinson.
And letting agents BNP Paribas Real Estate (BNPPRE) confirm there is strong interest in the remaining units either as single units within the scheme or as double units.
Mike Birkett, director of retail agency at BNPPRE says the benefit of the Gentoo scheme and location is the provision of new retail space hitherto not available in the heart of Alnwick.
He said: “Given the distinct shortage of choice of national operators in the town, in particular fashion retailers, national coffee traders and mobile phone retailers and the high-profile location of the development, this is clearly a rare opportunity to acquire space.”
Stewart Allan, managing director of Gentoo Ventures, said: “Gentoo is delighted to welcome Wilkinson as a tenant in our mixed use development in Alnwick.
“The high quality store with a strong ability to generate footfall will be a great asset to the development. Wilkinson is a trusted well liked household name and I believe the new store will be well received by the residents of Alnwick.”
Wilkinson’s is one of the fastest growing retailers in the UK and will open its new store in 2011. The new store will offer Alnwick shoppers unbeatable value on a huge selection of everyday essentials items, as well as bring new jobs to the area.
Simon Hathway, head of retail at Wilkinson’s, said: “Wilkinson’s is committed to expanding its store profile across the UK and we are always looking for new sites. We’re excited by the prospect of being part of this new Gentoo development.”
