Further extension is proposed in the southwest corner to provide two separate toilets; one for male customers and one for female and disabled customers. Baby changing facilities will also be provided.

The interior will be fitted out and decorated to match the existing theme, while a small canopy is also proposed over the front entrance door.

A surveyors report on behalf of the applicant stated: ‘The restaurant has proved very successful and continues to go from strength to strength, consequently some of the facilities need to be improved particularly the toilet provision.’

Northumberland County Council planning officer James Hudson, approving the application using delegated powers, stated: ‘Given the position, size and orientation of the restaurant and its distance from neighbouring properties, it is considered there would not be any significant issues regarding overshadowing, overbearing, loss of light, outlook or privacy as a result of the proposed works.

‘Furthermore there are not considered to be any significant issues concerning odour or noise arising from the proposal.’

The building comprises recycled shipping containers clad with rustic timber to attain a shack-like appearance.
