Philips recalls baby monitor over fears that overheating battery could cause fire hazard

Philips is voluntarily recalling and replacing its digital video baby monitor models over fears of a fire hazard risk.

On Tuesday, January 14, The Consumers' Association Which? confirmed that Philips is voluntarily recalling and replacing all seven of its Digital Video Baby monitor models in the SCD620 series as a precaution.

The company has found that the battery could overheat while the monitor is plugged in, meaning it is potentially at risk of catching fire in some cases.

On the Philips website, a statement said: “In very rare cases, the battery in the parent unit can overheat while plugged into the electrical connection. This poses a potential fire hazard.

“We thank you for your co-operation and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Which products are affected?

The Philips Avent Digital Video Baby Monitor was produced between January 2016 and March 2018.

The seven products that might be affected are:

SCD620/79

SCD620/78

SCD620/93

SCD620/52

SCD620/26

SCD620/05

SCD620/01

The serial number of the products are:

TM5A

TM5B

TM5C

How to check if your product is affected

If you own a baby monitor of this kind, you can find product type number can be found printed on the sticker on the bottom of the monitor.

The serial number on the product will also be needed to recall it. The number starts with TM followed by a number and letter which can be found on a sticker printed on the bottom of the parent unit.
