Coquet Vets is Amble’s only independent general veterinary practice and its formation has already seen four jobs created, with plans in place for further recruitment over the next 12 months.

The new family-run business, which occupies a prominent position on Percy Drive, has been launched to provide affordable care for small animals with a strong focus on the local community.

Emily Renton, clinical director and partner of the new practice, who has over 18 years’ veterinary experience, said: “Having been part of the local community, and having seen many small practices become part of larger brands throughout my career, it was important to us to set up a modern, independent practice with traditional values, dedicated to providing the most cost-effective and personalised care possible.

“Investing in efficiencies and features that will be kinder to the environment will also help us to operate more sustainably from a single site, which will allow us to create more jobs and keep our fees as low as possible.”

The purpose-built design, project managed by Amble-based Sullivan Associates, celebrates the surrounding landscape. The timber-clad, curved building resembles a North Sea wave and has been constructed by local firm, D.P Builders.

Measuring around 6,350 sq ft, it features light-filled and practical clinical spaces, including three consulting rooms, a laboratory and dispensary, two surgical theatres, a dental suite, separate dog and cat kennels, isolation facilities and an imaging room for X-rays and ultrasounds.

The building also features a striking double-height atrium reception space with first floor offices and externally there are 20 parking spaces.

Mrs Renton said: “I’m really proud to be part of Coquet Vets where our focus will be on providing high quality, friendly and supportive veterinary care for much-loved pets and their owners.

“We’re a small and experienced team, and getting to know our patients and clients is important to us so we can provide great continuity of care, focused on the welfare of our animals.”

Coquet Vets is holding an open day on Saturday, March 28 from 10am-3pm where visitors will be welcome to have a look behind the scenes and meet staff.
