New town gym opens its doors

Unity Fitness in Ramparts Business Park (Units 5 and 6 at Compass Court) was due to open in May, but this was postponed because of the pandemic.

The team did a series of free virtual classes for the community during lockdown and recently ran outdoor fitness classes.

Nicola Turnbull, one of the directors, said: “Unity Fitness Berwick is made up of five people (three of them are the coaches) who have come together to share our passion for health and fitness with the community.

"All coaches still work full time in other jobs, but are using their free time to provide fitness classes to people of the local area.

"Our name derives from the word ‘commUNITY’. Our main aim is to provide a warm and welcoming inclusive environment where people are happy to attend in a group, or as an individual.

"Our classes are inclusive to all ages and abilities. We have a range of members aged between 17 and 68 and have made links with a couple of local sports clubs.

"We have all been hugely overwhelmed by the support from the community and all the fantastic feedback they have given."

The classes include Circuits, Combination, Capacity (endurance style workout), Compound and Conditioning, Ladies Only and Introduction to Fitness.
