New padel centre to be created at Silverlink in North Tyneside
An interior design practice is serving up more success after being commissioned to deliver a state-of-the art padel complex in North Tyneside.
Design North, part of the Woolsington-based Architects-Group, will be working for Project Padel to transform an existing 53,000 sq. ft. warehouse at Silverlink into a state-of-the-art sports and leisure complex, centred around new padel courts and facilities.
The undisclosed seven figure redevelopment marks another significant step in the North East becoming a hot spot for one of the world’s fastest-growing sports.
A cross between tennis and squash, padel, which is played in a doubles format on a court one-third the size of a traditional tennis court, is seen as one of the fastest growing sports in the UK, according to the LTA.
With a popular site already in Benton, Project Padel is set to double its operational capacity with the new Silverlink venture - the site is expected to be the largest indoor facility of its type in the region when it opens in the summer, offering eight double courts, three single courts, two pickleball courts, gym, spa, reformer studio, bar and social workplace facilities.
The transformation of the Silverlink site is being led by Design North which joins several other padel court development projects across the north of England for the Architects-Group, with new facilities currently in Morpeth, York, Leeds and Hull all on their drawing board.
Director Scott Stewart said: “We have extensive experience in leisure and hospitality projects. Our knowledge and expertise will provide contemporary and state-of-the-art facilities at Silverlink, allowing padel to play centre stage, while natural materials and hints of industrial modernity create a luxurious but subtle backdrop.”
Aaron Shepherdson, director at Project Padel added: “We are thrilled to bring a new Project Padel facility to Tyneside. Design North has really understood our requirements, making them the perfect partners for this project. The new club will offer a fantastic leisure and sporting experience, similar to our other locations, featuring social tournaments and events, coaching, and a community-focused atmosphere.”
