Jasmine Spokes and Matthew Dunn set up Seaton Sluice Surf last month and have already been blown away by the support shown.

The school – accredited with Surfing England, the National Governing body of surfing – is the first surf school in Seaton Sluice, and the only one between the village and Blyth.

The pair both have years of experience working for the RNLI as beach lifeguards before they went on to teach surfing.

Jasmine said they would shortly become ISA qualified adaptive surf instructors, one of the only schools in the UK and potentially the only school above South Wales with all instructors holding this qualification.

The qualification means the school can teach surfing to people with additional needs.

The pair also hold National Vocational Beach Lifeguard Qualifications and ISA Level 1 Surf Instructor Qualifications, with Matty soon qualifying at Level 2 – the highest qualification in surf coaching.

And the pair have also received help from the Prince's Trust to get started.

Jasmine said: “Seaton Sluice Surf was created from our love of all things sea and surf. It has been a huge part of our lives before we had come to realise it.

“Surfing is what our lives are centred around. So, becoming surf instructors and then surf school owners was an easy career choice for us.

“We are onto our fourth week of being open and the reception of us to Seaton Sluice couldn't have been better.”
