Luxury with nature on the doorstep at Thropton
If you fancy a break in the great outdoors but don’t fancy spending the night in a tent, have a go at glamping.
Westfield House Farm, at Thropton, has installed four bespoke, luxury shepherd’s huts to add to its existing bed and breakfast business.
The traditional shepherd’s hut accommodation is based on the wagons used by upland shepherds in the 19th century, but with some modern adaptations.
They have been hand built and designed to give guests the comfort of home but with nature on the doorstep, literally, with verandas looking out onto the farm’s hay meadow.
Each shepherd’s hut offers guests en suite accommodation, electricity and a fully equipped kitchen area. With year-round availability, sheep’s wool insulation and wood burning stoves.
Business owners Tim and Emma Hardie are hoping to attract more than 1,000 overnight visitors this year.
Local businesses are also set to benefit, with guests eating and shopping locally and Tim and Emma sourcing much of Westfield’s supplies from local independent providers.
