Conversion of the former RAFA Club building on Dacre Street, known as Elm House, was completed last year by building contractors Datim for Zonic Investments.

And the business has also revealed that it has agreed a partnership with Jaspers of Amble to introduce the Jaspers concept to Morpeth.

David Nicholson of Zonic Investments said: “We have had an ambition for some time to help introduce a fine dining restaurant to Morpeth and with our conversion of the former RAFA Club, we had hoped to be able to attract an experienced operator to the town and to this magnificent venue.

“Unfortunately, due to a number of aborted negotiations and the Covid-19 crisis, we have had difficulty attracting a suitable operator and so we have decided to push things forward by partnering up with Jaspers, run by Chef Patron Ryan Humphrys, who we believe are the right people to help deliver our vision.

“We are hoping to open the new restaurant before Christmas and in the meantime, we will be carrying out some additional internal works to the building, erecting the external signage, working on our website and will shortly be looking to recruit staff.

“We are currently going through very difficult and unprecedented times, but we hope that by showing our commitment to Morpeth, this will help encourage others to do the same because things will get better.”

Mr Nicholson and his wife first dined at Jaspers in Amble early this year.

He added: “We were very impressed with the eclectic choice of their menu, surprisingly for such a small place.

“The food that we ordered was absolutely superb, well served and presented, and with the easy listening music playing in the background, we both had a really enjoyable evening. Ryan is both a truly inspirational chef and passionate about his food and his restaurant.

“We offered him the chance of working together, combining his skills and our vision to help create something really special in Morpeth, and we are pleased to say that he has agreed.”
