Plans to turn a former visitor centre into a cafe at the Coquetdale Centre in Rothbury have received the green light.

Local businessman Kevin Mulraney has secured planning permission from Northumberland County Council for the change of use and internal alterations to part of the ground floor of the Church Street property.

The space was last occupied by Northumberland National Park.

Planning officer Jon Sharp, approving the plans under delegated powers, stated: ‘It is considered that the proposal is of an appropriate design and represents an appropriate form of development that would not have a significant adverse impact on the street scene or the amenity of nearby residents.’

He added: ‘The council's Public Health Protection team has responded to consultation raising no objections subject to conditions in respect of opening hours and a restriction on hot food preparation.’

There were no objections.

The building has a multi-occupancy including Northumbria Police.
