Procter and Gamble donates £7,000 of products to help vulnerable Northumberland residents

The multinational consumer goods firm, which has a base in Newcastle, has donated nappies and toiletries including shampoo and sanitary products to Northumberland County Council to be distributed to those most affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The donation also included 300 boxes of laundry pods as well as a large quantity of hand sanitiser, baby wipes and washing up liquid.

The council has been working with communities throughout the pandemic through its Northumberland Communities Together project and the products have been distributed via the council’s community shielding hub which was set up at Blyth Sports Centre.

Coun Cath Homer, cabinet member for the community and voluntary sector at Northumberland County Council, said: “This tremendously generous donation by P&G has been a real lifeline for those in our community who have found themselves severely affected by Covid-19.

“Basic cleaning and personal hygiene products as well as baby products should not be things that people have to worry about but we are well aware that during this crisis people have been struggling both financially but also due to restrictions of movement.

“To have that pressure and worry taken away through this donation has meant a great deal to our communities and we are incredibly thankful to P&G for their support.”

Gill Hardy, of P&G, said: “We recognised that during this incredibly difficult time communities needed direct support. As a company we wanted to be able to help with that by donating our products to those communities most in need.

“The relationship we have formed with Northumberland County Council has been very rewarding and to know that we have played our part in supporting residents through this crisis has been extremely heart-warming and we will continue to do what we can to help.”
