How to get your McDonald's fix during Lockdown 2 as fast food chain reveals plans

The closure of dining areas across England will come into force at midnight on Thursday, November 5 when the second national lockdown officially begins.

The fast food chain has revealed that its restaurants will still remain open for takeaway, drive-thru and McDelivery via Uber Eats and Just Eat.

Some branches across the North East have been operating this way since September and will continue to do some for the foreseeable future as the Covid-19 pandemic continues.

It is a change from the stance the company took during the first lockdown, which saw the closure of all restaurants across the UK for the best part of three months.

Paul Pomroy, the chief executive officer for McDonald’s UK and Ireland said: “Following the latest announcements from the Prime Minister, I wanted to share an update on our plans to continue serving your McDonald’s favourites safely.

At 12.01am on Thursday we will close our dining areas across England but, in line with Government guidance, we will remain open for takeaway, drive thru and McDelivery via Uber Eats and Just Eat.

“The safety of you and our employees is an absolute priority to us. I am incredibly proud of how our restaurant teams have continued to adapt to the new ways of working and I am also grateful for your understanding as we have all got to grips with a new normal.

"Once again, as we all adjust, I would ask you to be patient with our teams.

"We remain committed to enabling our people to come to work safely whilst we continue to serve the communities in which we operate.”

The restaurant chain has implemented measures to ensure the safety of both the staff and members of the public.

These include fewer people working on each shift, serving a reduced menu, certain restaurants will be running at reduced hours and customers will be expected to wear face coverings when entering the restaurant.
