Bamburgh Castle reveals reopening plans - and it could stay open all through winter to help boost tourism

It is also planning to stay open all winter to help the Northumberland economy recover from the three month long coronavirus shutdown.

Bamburgh Parish Council chairman Barbara Brook, speaking after a discussion with Bamburgh Castle Estates, said: “They’ve said they hope to remain open throughout the winter to help local hotels and bed and breakfasts who will be hoping to make up the deficit of revenue that they have incurred in the last three months.

“They feel the more attractions that are open, the easier it will be to entice the holidaymakers to stay and for visitors to come to the area.”

The attraction is putting a range of measures in place to ensure the safety of visitors and staff when it reopens.

“Your safety and the welfare of our team is our top priority,” it states on its website. “We’ve new plans in place including social distancing marking, enhanced cleaning and becoming a cash-free site, so you can enjoy a safe visit while experiencing the thrill of entering Britain’s most iconic castle.”

On arrival, parking payments will be contactless.

There will be new signage around the grounds and staterooms and visitors are asked to maintain social distancing requirements at all times.

The castle will be reopening with reduced visitor numbers. Admissions will be carefully monitored.

Hygiene screens are in place at points of face to face contact, including the ticket office, food and drink outlets and retail counters.

Visitors will be asked to maintain high levels of hygiene. Hand sanitisers will be available throughout the castle.

Rigorous cleaning programmes will be in place throughout the day, while touch points such as handrails, handles, taps and benches will be disinfected and wiped down regularly.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions the inside of the Clock Tower Tearoom and Tack Room remain closed for sit in dining but will be offering a takeaway service

Tickets can be bought on arrival or on the castle website in advance.
