It was awarded platinum – the highest grade possible – following an unannounced visit by a fully trained Loo of the Year Awards inspector.

Mark Brassell, director of The Alnwick Garden, said: “The Treehouse is a magical place and that means that the whole experience has to be reflective of that.

Reflective of the surroundings, the walls have been designed to look like tree bark with a ceiling set with twinkling lights.

The disabled toilet has been designed with dramatic stone wall tiles, pale grey woodwork and a marble sink.

The idea behind the Loo of the Year Awards is to celebrate the provision of the best ‘away from home’ facilities at tourist sites around the country.
