The Cookie Jar has been awarded the Travellers Choice award for 2020 – placing it in the top 10 per cent of hotels in the world on the TripAdvisor website.
Hotel owner Debbie Cook said: “We’re delighted to have won the award.
"It’s a fantastic accolade, especially as it’s based entirely on comments provided by TripAdvisor reviewers. We take great pride in our level of customer care.
"To think that a small 11-bedroom hotel in Northumberland is ranked in the top 10 per cent in the world is just amazing.”
The boutique retreat lies within a stone’s throw of Alnwick Castle on Bailiffgate.
It opened in 2017 after a major renovation of the former St Mary’s Convent created a range of luxurious rooms and suites.
Debbie oversaw the refurbishment of the Grade II listed building and personally replies to every TripAdvisor review and looks at every booking.
Her husband, Robert, is a former chief executive of Malmaison and Hotel du Vin.
“We'd just like to say a big thank you to everyone who has helped make The Cookie Jar a success over the last few years including, staff, suppliers, the local community and most of all, our fabulous guests,” said Debbie.
Like everyone in the hospitality industry it has been a difficult few months due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Cookie Jar was closed from March 21 until July 4 and since then has been open to residents only.
“We’ve been really busy since reopening,” said Debbie. “In fact, Alnwick and the whole of Northumberland seem to be really busy and long may that continue.”
Non-residents will be welcomed back from September 2.
The Travellers Choice Awards are given to those venues that have the best reviews, ratings, and savings that travellers share from across the globe.
