Alnwick Markets and Christians Together in Alnwick have teamed up to deliver the crib-themed calendar.

“The objective is to feature the town’s local independent businesses and encourage shoppers to Keep It Local at Christmas,” explained Philip Angier, chairman of Alnwick Markets.

“Many of our shops produce beautiful and innovative window displays, but rarely do we see a nativity scene,” says Dawn McDonald from Christians Together in Alnwick.

“So this year we are encouraging shops to include a crib scene as part of their window display – putting Christ back into Christmas.

“The response from businesses has been wonderful – many providing their own crib figures, some taking crib sets on loan from members of the local churches.

“The cribs will be something extra and something special for families to look out for on their shopping trips.”

“Some local businesses have generously offered prizes,” added Mel Corn, Alnwick Markets’ promotions officer.

”There will be a weekly prize draw promoted through Alnwick Markets Facebook page, and you can catch up on who is the day’s featured business any time at www.alnwickmarkets.co.uk/advent.

“It’s never been more important to support your local market and your local high street.”

The crib theme is being celebrated on December 7 at St Paul’s Church with a special exhibition of cribs from around the world. Refreshments will be available and there will be a programme of music.
