Latest book by Northumberland author Mark Batey has a contemporary edge
A Northumberland author has delved into the fast-changing sphere of geopolitics in his new thriller.
Final Harbour marks a change of direction and genre for Mark Batey, following his trilogy recounting the life stories of Northumberland-born Victorians who achieved remarkable feats with lasting legacies – Grace Darling, Josephine Butler and George Biddell Airy.
Set mainly in the UK and Malta, it concerns a Russian plot to create upheaval in the UK in retaliation for the country’s support of Ukraine.
Characters include Sofia, a young Eritrean, Zoltan Zamba, a reclusive Maltese corporate boss, John Stirling, a British intelligence officer, and Fabiana, a Maltese journalist.

Mark, who lives in Amble, said: “In Final Harbour, I set out to explore the shadow networks and mortal dangers that lurk behind the headlines we browse every day.
“I hope the story will entertain readers seeking escapist adventure with a contemporary twist this summer.”
Published by Blossom Spring Publishing, the book is out now – available in paperback and ebook editions.
