A new challenge is in store for Alnwick Theatre Club this weekend, as the group performs 39 and A Half Steps as a radio play live on stage.
The show, staged at Alnwick Playhouse tomorrow and Saturday, is a Radio Revellers’ play inspired by the John Buchan novel.
It will take the audience back to the 1930s and show-goers can revel in the glorious days of wireless
Chairman Peter Biggers said: “This is a completely different show.
“As far as anyone can remember in our 60-plus years of performing in Alnwick, we have never undertaken a radio play.
“Never a club to shirk from new challenges, when the opportunity came to work with The Radio Revellers to present The 39 and A Half Steps in a 1930s wireless studio in front of a live audience, we jumped at the chance.”
The challenge of presenting a Radio Play is creating all the sound effects live on stage in front of the audience. On top of that, the cast of 12 will play 40 roles between them.
The show starts at 7.30pm both days.
Tickets are priced £10, £9 concessions and £6 children and students.
A glass of punch on arrival shall help the evening got off to a flying start.
