REVIEW: Jo Caulfield, Better The Devil You Know, at Alnwick Playhouse, on Saturday, May 4.
Award-winning comedian Jo Caulfield fuelled the laughs at Alnwick Playhouse with a blend of one-liners and observational comedy.
Caulfield, who has appeared on the likes of Mock The Week, covered a wide range of topics during the show, including television adverts, holidays and marriage.
Even jokes about flashers found their way into her routine!
She also threw in some local gags, having spent time in Alnwick before the show.
The town’s love for Barbour jackets was something which caught her comedy eye.
Caulfield interacted well with the audience throughout – especially those in the first few rows – and the banter came thick and fast.
It has to be said, there is something really pure about seeing a comedian in a venue like the Playhouse. It’s intimate and personal. It really does have a comedy club type feel. And to see a comedian of Caulfield’s calibre is of course a real bonus.
It was just a shame there weren’t more people to see it. The Playhouse looked around half full. It may have had something to do with the fact that it was a Bank Holiday weekend, or that Caulfield had appeared at The Maltings, Berwick, the night before.
