We Will Rock You!, Duchess’s Community High School, at Alnwick Playhouse. Wednesday, March 30 to Saturday, April 2. 7.30pm. Tickets £8 adults, £7 conc, £6 students/children, available from the Playhouse box office on 01665 510785.

PREPARE to be rocked by the music of Queen as a hit London musical blasts its way onto the Alnwick Playhouse stage.

The talented Duchess’s Community High School crew perform We Will Rock You!, which is sure to be A Kind Of Magic.

It will be a case of Don’t Stop Me Now once the school’s electrifying singers, dancers and actors hit the stage, hoping to follow on from last year’s sell-out show of Jesus Christ Superstar.

We Will Rock You! will take audiences into a grim future where music has been sanitised and industrialised, and live performances have been outlawed.

But fear not, the rebel Bohemians are ready to fight back, with the greatest weapon of all – the songs of Queen.

The show is the schools’ version of the musical, written by British comedian and author Ben Elton in collaboration with Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor, and the line-up of incredible songs is irresistible.

“I am a very lucky man,” said Andrew Scott, head of music at the school. “Back in 1986, I heard Queen live at Wembley in Freddy Mercury’s second-last concert.

“And now I’m having immense fun teaching those songs, with their luscious, rich harmonies and huge rock beats, to a superb bunch of teenage performers – who of course love the songs as much as I do.

“The story-line is by Ben Elton, and highly entertaining, if totally daft and occasionally raunchy.

“We have a truly very exciting show waiting in the wings for audiences of all ages – so get your tickets now.”
