Capstan Full Strength, The Mason’s Arms, Warkworth, Thursday, December 1.

THE place to be for seadogs and landlubbers alike last Thursday was Warkworth, as the Mason’s Arms hosted one of its seafood and shanty nights.

Capstan Full Strength, a locally-based shanty trio, took to the floor and provided shanty songs a-plenty accompanied on the mandolin, concertina and melodeon.

Anne and Adrian Davison, of the Mason’s Arms, said: “We have been organising seafood shanty nights for almost six months and they have really taken off.

“We offer a new seafood menu and shanty group each month and we get booked up very quickly.

“Capstan Full Strength did a brilliant job in getting everybody into the spirit of the evening.

“It really is best to ring and book a table for food beforehand to be sure of a table as these events are such a run-away success.”

Head chef Stuart Slaven cooks everything from scratch and likes to source locally where possible.

The pub has had such positive feedback that the first Thursday of each month will remain a seafood special night with shanty entertainment.

The next event, on Thursday January 5 next year, will see well-known singer Benny Graham perform.

To book a table, ring Adrian and staff at the Mason’s Arms on 01665 711398.
