WELL-RENOWNED young pianist Alessandro Taverna makes his first visit to the town when he performs at Alnwick Music Society’s fifth subscription concert.
Born in Caorle near Venice in 1983, Taverna rocketed to prominence two years ago when he was a prize-winner at the Leeds International Piano Competition, as well as two other prestigious contests.
Taverna studied at the music academy of Santa Cecilia Portogruaro where he now teaches when his touring commitments permit.
He has a wide, varied and accessible programme for his Alnwick recital, beginning with Beethoven’s Eroica Variations Op35 in E followed by Chopin’s Nocturnes – one in B major and the second in E major.
After the interval, he will play Rachmaninov’s Polka, Liszt’s overture to William Tell, transcribed by Rossini, and then 3 Movements from Petrouchka by Stravinsky.
