Musicians’ chance to shine

A successful music award series is to return this year to Northumberland

The Northumberland Music Festival Awards, will return for the second year as part of the Northumberland Music Festival, which starts at the end of the month.

Sponsored by Tyneside Piano Company, the awards are open to anyone living in Northumberland or Tyne and Wear and will take place at Doxford Hall on Saturday, November 14.

The winners of each category will be presented with a Northumberland Music Festival Award Trophy. For the first time this year the winners of each of the five classes will win the opportunity to perform in the Festival Award Winners concert on Saturday, November 21, also at Doxford Hall.

The categories are: Class 1, Young Persons Class, which is open to anyone aged between eight and 15; Class 2, Open Instrumental Class, which is open to anyone over eight years old, playing instrument (not vocal); Class 3, Opera Class, which is open to adults from 16 years and upwards; Class 4, Open Song Class, which is open to adults from 16 years and upwards and Class 5, Instrumental Solo, a performance for three minutes on the instrument of their choice (not vocal), open to anyone 18 years and over.

All entrants in all classes will be judged on the performance on the day by Yvonne Patrick, the official adjudicator of the awards. Yvonne is one of the National Music Festival Adjudicators as well as soprano with the D’Oyly Carte Opera.

To enter the competition, fill in an application form, which can be downloaded from www.nmfestival.com, once downloaded, you can email or send it to the Festival Office at info@nmfestival.co.uk before Friday, October 23.
