Rothbury Accordion and Fiddle Club held its last meeting of 2014 on Thursday, November 6, at the Queen’s Head, Rothbury.

Guest for the evening was the well-established, highly talented and ever-smiling Robert Whitehead and his Band, featuring Robert on accordion, Alan Brown on keyboard and David Ashbridge on drums.

The band members are all relatively local lads, Robert from Bothal, David from Wingates and Alan from Birtley.

In addition to the two main guest spots, comprising mainly a Scottish repertoire, the audience of 45 was entertained by a variety of other excellent musicians – including Jimmy Little’s impeccable timing on ‘moothie’, Robin Dunn’s fiddle duo from Newcastle, and Gwen Potter, visiting from Waterloo, Ontario, who played Northumbrian tunes on ‘viola d’amore’, an unusual and sensitive baroque instrument.

The 2015 programme starts on March 5, at 7.30pm at The Queen’s Head Rothbury, when the guest is the Iain MacPhail Band.
