Two Northumberland schools helped Brinkburn Music Festival launch a new era in its history and unveil some of the highlights of its 2014 programme with a special concert in front of an invited audience.

Children from The Northumberland Church of England Academy in Ashington, where the event was held, were joined by pupils from Dr Thomlinson’s Church of England Middle School, Rothbury, for a two-hour singing masterclass with the festival’s new artistic director, Dr Gulliver Ralston.

The Reverend Michael Boag, Rector of Upper Coquetdale, is the festival’s new chairman and said the aim is to introduce new audiences to the Brinkburn experience, which runs for three days in July.

Tickets for the festival will be available early next year.
