Green-fingered members of a begonia group, which was formed by an Alnwick horticultural fan, will be exhibiting their beautiful blooms at a special show later this month.
The North East and Scottish Borders Begonia Society is the brainchild of James Stewart and has gone from strength to strength since launching last year.
It has nearly 20 members and is part of the National Begonia Society.
On Saturday, August 16, and Sunday, August 17, the group will be displaying exhibits at Dobbies Garden Centre, in Ponteland, during its North East Area Show.
It comes on the back of the club’s first show last year and James hopes the 2014 event can build on the success of 2013. There will be 12 classes at the show, including three for novices, and the event is an open competition.
It is free to enter, as well as to view, and all classes carry small cash prizes for first, second and third places.
James said: “Last year’s event was excellent and there was a fantastic display. We have got more members in the group this year, so the event should be even bigger and better.
“Dobbies was very impressed with the show last year and they have agreed to our request for more show space this year.”

The North East and Scottish Borders Begonia Society meets on the first Sunday of each month in the Library Annexe at Dinnington Village Hall from 2pm to 4pm. It is not meeting in September because of this month’s show.
