In a recent Gazette poll, Bamburgh Castle was voted top view and top castle by our readers, and now charity HospiceCare North Northumberland is about to make it top of the pops too by hosting a summer music festival there.

The B Festival will be offering a feast of musical talent – taking in classical, opera, folk, jazz, pop and more – on Friday, July 21 .

The event is being held by permission of Francis Watson-Armstrong and his family as they have adopted Alnwick-based HospiceCare as their charity of the year.

Chris Calvert, director of the castle, said: “We’re really excited about working with HospiceCare on this project.

“We’ve never had an event like this at the castle, so it’s a first. It will be a great evening and a great way to raise funds for a very deserving charity.”

Julie Frost, marketing and corporate co-ordinator for HospiceCare, said: “This event is really exciting for us and incredibly special because Bamburgh Castle is such an iconic building.

The line-up for the evening includes the Berwick Concert Band, Candi’s Dog, Renata and Trev, the Attic Band, Swing Street, Lionheart Harmony, the Grey Catz, Rhionne, the James Mathewson Musical Theatre Ensemble and State 4.

Tickets cost £15 each, and under-16s go free with paying adults.

Those going along are invited to take along picnics and something to sit on, although a limited selection of food will be available on the night.

Tickets can be purchased online at www/hospicecare-nn.org.uk or in person at the castle, Clarks the Grocers in Bamburgh and HospiceCare’s office in Narrowgate, Alnwick.
