Gardeners’ World came to The Alnwick Garden on Friday to film an episode that looked specifically at The Garden’s Cherry Orchard of Tai Haku cherry trees and the Japanese links and history of their cultivation.
They interviewed head gardener Trevor Jones about the orchard.
The Alnwick Garden’s Cherry Orchard is the largest orchard of its kind (dedicated to Tai Haku) in the UK.
Tai Haku had been famed for its beauty in 20th-century Japan, but the world nearly lost it. When the fad for double-flowered cherries took over, Tai Haku had been allowed to die out.
The Cherry Orchard instalment is currently on show at The Alnwick Garden.
