The Old School Gallery in Alnmouth is looking both inland and out to sea as it hosts a new exhibition of seascapes and landscapes.

The show, which is on until the end of the month, offers an overview of the work of Edinburgh-based artist Lesley Skeates.

Skeates says she has been inspired by the natural world, the sea and the sky, particularly in Northumberland and Scotland as they offer a never-ending source of material for her to work with.

The display at the Foxton Road gallery, on the outskirts of the village, also highlights Skeates’ fascination with colour.

She explains that, when starting to work on a new piece, she initially sketches in pastel to quickly capture the fleeting effects of light and atmosphere.

Her work is on display in Alnmouth until Tuesday, September 1, from 10am until 5pm, Wednesday to Sunday.
