A company set up in 2013 that specialises in hip-hop dance theatre brings a new double bill to Alnwick this month.
Southpaw Dance Company will perform Riots and Men on a Mission at the Playhouse on Friday, February 21.
And it’s not the first time that artistic director Robby Graham has performed in the town; he was one of the dancers who appeared in The Night Ball at the Northumberland Hall last September, a production by North East-based company balletLORENT.
The double bill consists of two very different pieces, both of which are inspired by events the choreographer has experienced and related to in recent times.
Men on a Mission is a look at experimentation, addiction and decline, powerfully danced to a Tarantino-esque score.
Riots, commissioned by Dance City and supported by Arts Council England, explores apathy and activism in the ever-changing political and social conditions that have led to the global phenomenon of riot and protest.
Both pieces are danced with conviction in the distinctive mix of B-boying (breakdance), contemporary and physical theatre, for which Robby has become known.
When and where - Friday, February 21, 7.30pm, at the Alnwick Playhouse.
Tickets - £10, £11 premier, £9 conc, £6.50 child/student on 01665 510785.
