Everyone from a singer who has performed with Motown legends to a Shakespearean theatre company will be in Alnwick in the coming months.
Alnwick Playhouse is about to launch its spring 2015 programme and whether your bag is theatre, music, opera, dance, comedy or film, there’s sure to be something in there for everyone.
The new booklet features all of the events from now until May and beyond with highlights including Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre returning, this time with Romeo and Juliet, at the end of March/early April and Swanhunter – an operatic adventure for all the family performed live on stage from Opera North – later in April.
Music fans may be interested to know that Ruby Turner, who sang with The Four Tops, The Temptations and Jimmy Ruffin before joining up with Culture Club in the 1980s, will be performing in March.
And in May, it’s the turn of Courtney Pine, the first black British artist to make a serious mark on the jazz scene.
But the Alnwick-based arts venue is not neglecting local performers and in February, Northumberland Theatre Company brings its annual showcase – this time called 4Thoughts.
This will be followed by the younger talent with the Duchess’s Community High School performing Disco Inferno in March ahead of another Young Alnwick Playhouse takeover night.
Alnwick Stage Musical Society presents Oliver! later that month before Alnwick Theatre Club rounds off the season with Brassed Off in May.
