Music of all genres, dance, theatre and comedy are all on the cards as a rural touring scheme unveils its schedule for the start of the year.

Highlights Community Touring Scheme, which works in partnership with a network of 25 village halls and community venues across the county, has published its programme of events for January to May 2015 and there is a wealth of performances for residents in north Northumberland.

There are 14 extremely varied performances coming to the county over the next five months, which includes venues in the north of the county in Amble, Berwick, Craster, Howick, Whittingham, Wingates and Wooler.

In January, BURC (formerly St Paul’s) in Spittal plays host to wintry tale The Snow Bear as well as The New Budapest Café Orchestra, who play driving Eastern European folk music.

The New Rope String Band play a farewell date in Amble in February before Bowjangles appear in Wooler.

At the end of the month, Whittingham Memorial Hall is the venue for a new adaptation of traditional Chinese play, The Autumn of Han.

Looking further ahead, there are gigs from singer-songwriters at Wingates, Craster and Howick, followed by a double bill of Shakespeare-inspired fun at Whittingham.
