An opera night to remember

A Spring Opera Gala, presented by The Rotary Club of Alnwick, at The Guest Hall, Alnwick Castle, Thursday, April 14.

THREE internationally acclaimed professional performers produced an evening of wonderful music and entertainment, which raised over £1,000 for a local charity, the Gallery Youth Project.

The audience, which included a group of youngsters from the Duchess’s Community High and Duke’s Middle schools, were enthralled by a performance given by the world-class mezzo soprano Andrea Baker, tenor John Marshall and musical director Richard Lewis on piano, during A Spring Opera Gala, presented by The Rotary Club of Alnwick.

As well as arias from operas such as Carmen and Madame Butterfly, the programme included Summertime from Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, a selection of gospel music and a very well received version of Embraceable You from Richard Lewis.

Apart from the magnificent music, the crowd was won over by the light-hearted and friendly approach of the performers.

It was truly a great, never to be forgotten, evening of exquisite entertainment.
