The Taming of the Shrew, Chillingham Castle, Monday, May 30, 7pm. Tickets £12, £8 conc.
WOOING and wedding, music and masquerading will abound when the acclaimed all-male Festival Players head to Chillingham Castle for one of the first performances of their touring Shakespeare production, The Taming of the Shrew.
The Players will transport the audience to the colourful Italian world of Padua with a fun-packed, energetic, and brilliantly inventive production centred on Shakespeare’s feisty female creation, Katharina.
But this will be a shrew with a difference – for Kate will be played by a man. Scott Smith will take on the challenge of the wilful, headstrong Kate while Paul Hampton will be her mad-cap suitor, Petruchio.
They will lead the action in this great comedy of farcical impediments, impersonation, and impassioned love – a lively battle of the sexes to be played out by just seven actors.
Tickets for the show are available from the box office on 01668 215359
Audience members are invited to bring seats, cushions, rugs and picnics into the grounds. Hot and cold food and a licensed bar will also be available.
