Less than a week remains for budding artists to get their entries in for the poster image for next year’s Alnmouth Arts Festival.

The winning image, which will have a portrait orientation and be identifiable with Alnmouth, will be used on all the publicity material for the 2014 Festival.

The previous two winners, Jane Jackson and Francesca Simpson, are encouraging their fellow artists to take part.

Both became full-time professional artists as a result of the publicity their success generated.

Jane said: “Winning the poster competition for the 2013 Alnmouth Arts Festival has been a really positive and beneficial experience for me in lots of ways.

“It gave me the self confidence and courage to give up my part-time job and realise my childhood dream of becoming a full-time ‘proper’ artist.

“I’ve met some really interesting people and made some excellent contacts as a result of winning this competition. I would like to thank the Alnmouth Arts Festival Committee and the Northumberland Gazette for providing me with this wonderful opportunity and I would urge other artists to enter this year’s competition.”

Francesca said: “I now feel like an established artist due to all the publicity I gained as a result of winning the poster competition and taking part in the Alnmouth Arts Festival.

“I’ve had the opportunity to work with children in my local primary school and gain new skills.

“It’s helped me meet lots of new people and introduced me to other local artists which has led to more exciting opportunities.

“One that I am particularly looking forward to is becoming the first featured artist at the Bakehouse Gallery in Alnwick with an exhibition of my work which starts there on Thursday, November 14, and runs until the new year.”

To enter the competition, download a copy of the form from the Alnmouth Arts Festival website and fill it in or simply write down your name, address, contact details, website and a description of your work in no more than 45 words.

Send the completed form with a paper copy of your entry to AAF Poster Competition, Northumberland Gazette, 32 Bondgate Without, Alnwick, NE66 1PN,

The closing date is Thursday (October 24) and the winner will be announced in the Northumberland Gazette the following week.
