After receiving six Grammy awards, selling 25 million albums and 146 million digital tracks worldwide, Rihanna is set to embark on another global tour and has named Sunderland as one of her destinations.
The star’s huge worldwide Diamonds Tour will kick off in North America, before heading to Europe, stopping off in Wearside on Thursday, June 20, where she will perform at the Stadium of Light.
The tour will showcase songs from her upcoming album Unapologetic as well as feature all the huge hits that she has released since she burst onto the scene in 2005.
Tickets will go on sale at 9am on Tuesday, November 20. Sunderland is one of only five destinations in the UK that she will perform at so demand is expected to be exceptionally high.
Vice president of music at Live Nation, Steve Homer, said: “This is Rihanna’s biggest tour to date and we are very excited to bring the full show to the Stadium of Light, she has always enjoyed playing to her fans in the North East and this promised to be a highlight of the tour.”
Sunderland AFC commercial director Gary Hutchinson said: “Rihanna is one of the most popular artists in the world at the moment so to be able to welcome her to the Sunderland is simply fantastic. We are expecting to see phenomenal demand for this show, given the artist’s global popularity and this could be set to be the biggest show we have ever staged here.”
Superstar DJ David Guetta, who produced huge hit ‘Who’s that Chick’ with Rihanna, will be supporting the tour at the Stadium of Light.
