Mid Northumberland Chorus will be showcasing its talents in a choral cornucopia at St James’ Church, Morpeth on Saturday.

The concert, which is put together by musical director Paul Toward, is a ‘glorious cornucopia’ of choral music consisting of three short works for choir, organ and soloists.

The group will perform Bach – Cantata for the visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which includes the work popularly known as ‘Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, Schubert – Mass in G Major and Handel – Utrecht Jubilate.

The pieces are a separate unit in themselves but have a common theme of choral music composed between the early 18th and 19th centuries.

The chorus is to be joined by four professional soloists who have recently graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester as well as organist Michael Haynes, who is currently organist at Hexham Abbey.

The concert will start at 7.30pm.

Tickets, £9, are now on sale by ringing 01670 788869 or from any society members.
