Fun day out for dogs and their families

It has been 10 years since Otterburn RTC Sports Centre hosted the Northern Border Terrier Club event, but it will be doing so again on Saturday.

Celebrating 70 years of the club, the doors will be open to families and their pet dogs of any breed or persuasion, so long as they are well behaved.

Starting at 10am with a welcome tea or coffee, events begin at 10.30am with a talk on Simple First Aid for Your Dog, given by Sara Jackson of Vet’s Now, based in Gateshead.

Sara will also take questions from the floor.

Hilary Gilpin will follow Sara at 11.30am, and demonstrate correct hand stripping techniques for Border terriers. As a professional groomer, she will also have advice for owners of other breeds who may have questions.

Professional Glasgow photographer Joyce Martin, a specialist in canine imagery, will be on hand to take studio pictures of family pets.

For advice specifically on Border terriers, Northern Border Terrier Club committee members will be on hand to help all day.

And retired drugs dog handler John Ashworth will be giving a demonstration with his trusted pooch Fido.

Home-made cakes, a wrapped tombola, raffle, Guess the Weight of the Cake, face painting and several trade stands featuring dog-related accessories are an integral part of the show.

Refreshments will be available all day in the centre.

The highlight of the fun day for many terrier folk will be the terrier racing, taking place at 4.30pm.

Entry is free and there is also free car parking on the site.

Events run from 10am onwards.
