A new sponsor has come on board to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Alnwick Food Festival this year.

With plans now well underway for the food extravaganza on Saturday, September 20, and Sunday, September 21, which sees tens of thousands of visitors coming to the town each year, Laithwaite’s Wine Company has given its backing.

The food festival will see traders selling local produce in the Market Place, Alnwick Beer Festival in the Town Hall and chef’s demonstrations.

John Kemp, events development manager at Laithwaites, said: “I spoke to the food festival director Karen Larkin four or five years about the event and it has always been something we wanted to do. Luckily this year we are able to.

“We’ve got thousands of customers in the area so hopefully we’ll see some of them and make some new ones.”

The company will be bringing along their vintage airstream from which visitors will be able to taste and buy their wines.

Karen said: “We are delighted to welcome Laithwaite’s Wine to this year’s Alnwick Food Festival. It is fabulous news that such a great company and brand will be joining us for our 10th anniversary.

“It is incredible to think that this huge annual event is something my Dad came up with; he brought the idea to my kitchen one Sunday morning about 12 years ago with the opening line of ‘I have an idea but I don’t know if it will work’ to which my response was ‘I will put the kettle on’.

“The event requires a lot of hard work and determination, but with the help of Alnwick Round Table and the beer festival, we are confident this year will be another belter.”
