A world-renowned Michelin-starred chef is returning to Alnwick again this year to celebrate a decade of the town’s food festival.
Frenchman Jean-Christophe Novelli will be joining in with this year’s event on Saturday, September 20, and Sunday, September 21, for the fourth time after describing the event as ‘one of the best experiences’ he has had.
His visit has been sponsored by house-builders Cussins and Alnwick’s new cookery school Outcook.
And during the festival weekend Jean-Christophe will not only show off his talents in the demonstration kitchen in the Northumberland Hall but also host two cookery lessons at Outcook.
Jean-Christophe said: “From day one the Alnwick Food Festival has been an amazing experience.
“It is superbly organised by Karen Larkin and it is a privilege to be invited back again.
“I am excited to discover, for the first time, the new cookery school and I am delighted to be able to be a guest chef there.
“Working at Alnwick Food Festival is like going back to meet your cousins. Every time I come I meet a lot of people and you see children who have grown up, people ask more intricate questions and their skills improve.
“I think the Market Place is a perfect location for the festival and the produce in Northumberland is outstanding.”
Karen Larkin, food festival director, said: “Plans are well underway for this year’s food festival and we are really pleased to welcome Jean-Christophe back to Alnwick.
“The Market Place is nearly full and it will be great to see some new faces trading.
“We are very grateful to Outcook Home Cookery School and Cussins Ltd for making the return of Jean-Christophe possible and feel that once again, Alnwick Food Festival can offer that little extra something to visitors.”
Peter Cussins said: “Cussins Homes moved their headquarters to Alnwick about a year ago and we were very proud to be one of the main sponsors of the Alnwick Food Festival in 2013.
“Last year’s event was a spectacular success and as we are now fully focussed on the development of 70 homes at Willoughby Park, in Alnwick, we wish to continue sponsorship this year.
“I would like to take this opportunity to wish the sponsors of the Alnwick Food Festival continued success in this spirited community event.”
Ben Keenan, of Outcook, said: “Outcook is delighted to be involved with this year’s event and we are really looking forward to Jean-Christophe Novelli hosting two classes at our new cookery school.
“Outlook, Outcook’s sister company, has been involved with the food festival from day one supplying the demonstration kitchen and we feel proud to be a part of something that makes such a difference to the town and to the area.”
