Alnwick Premier Darts League
ALNWICK Working Men’s Club B wrote themselves into the headlines after producing a giant killing in the first round of the Alnwick Premier Darts League’s Subsidiary Plate.
The Division B side claimed a higher league scalp to move into the competition’s semi-final, defeating Division A outfit Fleece by four legs to one. Geordie Tate was once again in fine form for the Club.
And there was very nearly another cup upset, in the clash between Alnwick Gate B and The George B.
The Gate, of Division A, had to stage a comeback to claim the honours and narrowly win 4-3 against the Division B strugglers.
It all started well for The George, winning the first two legs. The Gate pulled one back before The George moved 3-1 ahead to set up the prospect of a giant killing.
But the Gate clicked into gear and hit a superb 21-dart leg from which The George didn’t really recover and the Gate went on to claim the tie 4-3 and book their place in the last four of the cup.
Some excellent darts were played by both sides and a special mention for Jonnie Quinn of The George, who is another one of the up-and-coming youngsters in the league. Jonnie hit a 180 earlier in the season and had another fine game here.
The Tanners Arms A also moved into the semi-final by beating their B team pubmates 4-0. The derby encounter witnessed some great darts from both sides and the tie was played in great spirit.
In the other first round match, Oddies A forfeited against Farriers B, which meant the game was awarded to the Farriers 4-0 and saw them through to the competition’s last four.
Teams return to league action tomorrow.
