Weather wrecks Northumberland’s sporting programme

The only form of sport that many in the North East will see this weekend.

Only a handful of this afternoon’s sports fixtures has survived the icy blast affecting northern Britain.

Alnwick Town’s Northern League Division Two match at Team Northumbria has just been called off, as has the Reserves’ home game against Cramlington United in the Northern Alliance Division Two.

In fact only four matches are still on in the Northern Alliance. They are North Shields Athletic v Whitley Bay A (Premier Division); Ponteland United v Newcastle University (Division One); Gateshead Leam Rangers v High Howdon SC (Division Two) and Shankhouse v Wallington (to be played at Wallington) in the Northumberland FA Les Todd Senior Benevolent Bowl.

Alnwick Rugby Club’s game at Rochdale goes ahead, while the Colts’ fixture at home to West Hartlepool and the Seconds’ home match are also both on.

The West Percy Point-to-Point meeting at Ratcheugh, near Alnwick, is also on, the course having been passed fit this morning.
