Weather wipes out calendar

HEAVY downpours at the weekend played havoc with the cricket calendar with none of the matches involving sides from north Northumberland seeing any play.

In the Wellstream Northumberland and Tyneside Senior Cricket League Division A2, Alnwick’s game at home against high-flying Leadgate, who lie top of the table after an unbeaten season so far, fell victim to the weather, while the Alnwick twos, due to play Leadgate II away in Division B2, also saw their game rained off.

The Alnwick seconds would have been looking to get a result against a Leadgate side who are failing to match the winning ways of their first team, languishing in bottom place in the league.

There was a complete washout in the SG Wealth Management Northumberland Leagues as well.

In the Premier Division, the mid-table clash between Alnmouth & Lesbury and Blagdon Park, Tillside’s home match with second-placed Blue Flames and fourth-placed Warkworth’s tricky tie against table-toppers Bedlington were all among the matches cancelled.

Meanwhile Stobswood Welfare missed the chance to get off the bottom of Division One as their home game against Whitley Bay was off as was the match between second and third-placed Kirkley and Ulgham Village.

Division B2 also saw no play with Stobswood Welfare’s trip to Hebburn and Ulgham Village’s match at home against Kirkley among the victims of the heavy rain.
