Alnwick Harriers

The performance of what was a busy weekend for the club was a superb run by Alnwick Harrier legend Dave Kirkland at the Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday.

Dave, who has not been seen in the club’s vest too often of late due to injury, came an amazing seventh overall in 2.29.19.

It was good enough for him to win the male 40 category.

Elsewhere, glorious warm weather greeted the 20 Alnwick Harriers who took part in the Druridge Bay 10k on Sunday.

The main headline from this great event came courtesy of Jo Gascoigne-Owens who once again smashed her own female 10k club record.

Jo, who has been in scintillating form winning the ladies races in the recent Les Allcorn 10k and at Hawkshead, finished second overall posting 37.26, knocking 10 seconds off her time in Hulne Park at the start of the month and finishing over five minutes clear of the second-placed female.

Jo wasn’t the only Harrier to taste success as Charlotte Baston won the female Junior trophy finishing in 49.15.

For the ladies there were also notable performances from the in-form Diana Weightman who was fourth female overall in a huge pb and from Lisa Baston who knocked well over a minute off her Les Allcorn 10k time. Also well done to Junior Harrier Lucy Embleton who was making her 10k debut.

For the men, the stand out performance was from Danny Richardson who was fourth overall and third male in 37.53.

Jim Lillico was next, finishing as second veteran, followed by Adam Spiller who seemed to thoroughly enjoy himself out there today.

Harriers results: 2 Jo Gascoigne-Owens 37.26; 4 Danny Richardson 37.53; 14 Jim Lillico 40.57; 25 Adam Spiller 43.04; 28 Stuart Morris 43.55; 38 Phil Baston 45.29; 45 Diana Weightman 46.25; 69 Lisa Baston 48.27; 81 Kim Bronze 49.14; 82 Charlotte Baston 49.15; 104 John Ross 51.59; 110 Carol Davison 52.40; 122 Rachel Heeley 53.28; 166 Christopher Watson 57.08; 173 Shelley Coates 57.53; 182 Lucy Embleton 58.47; 188 Ron McCormack 59.34; 198 Helen Hinds 1.01.55; 230 Emma Langman 1.05.33; 263 Tim Shepherd 1.12.25.

No doubt inspired by his mother’s recent performances Adam Weightman ran a 3000m pb in the North East Track and Field Championships at Gateshead Stadium the same day.

Adam was sixth overall, a great performance considering everyone in front of him was older, finishing in an impressive 9.38.

On Saturday two Harriers were in Newcastle Parkrun action.

Danny Richardson warmed up for Druridge Bay by finishing 11th in 18.12, while Andy Squires made his Parkrun debut on the Town Moor finishing 58th in 20.41.
