ALNWICK U10s travelled to Tynedale Rugby Club on Sunday, April 17, to compete in the annual seven-a-side tournament and once again came home with the silverware.
Unable to take their full squad for the first time during the season due to festival limitations of 12 players, it was a difficult decision for the coaches to leave out players who would have benefitted from playing in a sevens competition. Those players who did travel to Tynedale represented the squad with great commitment and showed exactly why Alnwick U10s are the county champions.
During the initial group stage of the competition, the first game against West Tyne resulted in a 55-0 win for Alnwick.
This was followed with another great score of 50-0 against Morpeth and then a 30-10 win against Blaydon.
In the quarter-finals, Alnwick were up against the host team, Tynedale, and this resulted in a 20-5 win.
The semi-final proved to be the toughest game of the day and resulted in a 15-15 draw against Gateshead.
Alnwick were awarded the win having scored the first try and this took them to the final against Darlington Mowden Park in which they stormed to victory with a 20-5 win and became the overall winners of the tournament.
The full squad had a great day enjoying lots of rugby in glorious sunshine.
To win the County Cup, their own Alnwick Festival and then to come away with the Tynedale Festival trophy was a fantastic end to the season for the Alnwick Under 10s.
Collectively and without exception, all the U10 boys and girls played with pride throughout the season and are a credit to Alnwick Rugby Club.
The coaches of the U10s thanked the entire squad and their parents for their dedicated efforts throughout the season and look forward to next season.
