Travellers move into early lead at the top

It already looks like a one-horse race for the Division A title in the Alnwick Premier Darts League, with the Travellers three points clear after only two games.

This time round they defeated the Oddies B 6-1, although Des Hope salvaged some pride for the Oddies by hitting a 180.

The Bottles A beat the George 4-3, with Dave Pentleton of the George checking out on 109. Apologies to Mick Armstrong who hit a 180 last week but was unreported due to a late result sheet.

Possibly the best match of the night was TeamDinga’s 4-3 victory over the John Bull. Every game was nip and tuck with Rob Knox of the Bull checking out on 100 while his singles opponent Keith Bell checked out on 112. Lee Harrison of the Bull hit a 180.

No text or result sheet was received from AWMC B v Bottles Boys.

In Division B, Shilbottle A continued their superb start to the season with a convincing 6-1 win at the unlucky Oddies A who battled for every point but couldn’t convert their chances, Chris Morton scoring their lone point.

New boys Shilbottle B recorded their first win by defeating Alnwick Golf Club A 4-3.

The first local derby of the campaign took place at Alnwick Working Men’s Club where the new C team hosted their A team Bar rivals. The new boys found it tough going though losing 5-2 but played well throughout.

Meanwhile, the Market Tavern beat a depleted Hotspur team 6-1, with captain Peter Munro scoring the Hotspur’s only point.

The Hotspur played the game a man down, only having three players. The team are desperate to continue playing but need some help. Anyone interested in playing should see Peter, the landlord of the Fleece.

Even if you cannot make it every week, everyone is welcome and hopefully if players can be found it will prevent the team from folding.
