Today’s highlights at the Olympics: Thursday, August 9

These are some of the events to look out for today at London 2012.

While yesterday may have seen a lull in the medals for Team GB, north Northumberland had its fill of excitement with Laura Weightman’s dramatic qualification for the 1500m final.

And two Britons are guaranteed medals today with Nicola Adams fighting for the first-ever Olympic women’s boxing gold at 4.30pm and the 470 sailing duo of Luke Patience and Stuart Bithell also guaranteed at least silver. They race at 1pm.

Other medal hopes include Beijing silver medallist Keri-Anne Payne in the open water swimming from noon, and the gold medal-winning dressage team competing in the individual competition between 12.3-pm and 4pm.

The women’s GB hockey team fell short at the semi-final stage last night, losing to Argentina, but the men go up against the Netherlands this evening.
