He has clocked up a double century of marathons, running in events across the world.
And now, super-fit 68-year-old Jim Manford has written all about it.
The Warkworth man has released the book Memories of a Marathon Man.
It tells the inspirational tale of his effort to compete in 200 26-milers in 20 different countries.
Jim said: “It describes two years in the life of a serial marathon runner – me.
“When I was 65, I had completed 150 marathons. Most people would be ready to put their feet up and relax.
“But instead, I set off to run another 50 marathons within the next two years to achieve my twin targets of running 200 marathons in 20 different countries.
“The book is the story of how I reached those targets.”
Among other things, Memories of a Marathon Man explains how he got into running the distance and what drives him to take on so many of these long-distance challenges.
It also describes the formation of the North East Marathon Club, which he started, and the four marathons in the club’s Tour of Northumbria.
The book’s cover photographs show Jim and friends running in the Northumberland Coast Marathon, which he organises.
Jim ran his 200th marathon in October 2012, aged 67.
He achieved the milestone at the Newcastle Town Moor event, which he organised.
As part of his efforts to hit the 200 mark, he ran 26-milers on six successive weekends, from the end of September last year.
This included an event in Budapest, Hungary – an important moment for him, as it was the 20th different country he had ran a marathon in.
He reached the 200 mark just under two years after completing his 150th.
But he isn’t finished yet.
Jim, who has recently returned from running a marathon in Iceland – which incidentally takes his tally to 211 – wants to run the distance in at least 30 different countries before hanging up his shoes. He is now on 23.
The endurance runner is also working on a new book, listing 20 marathons to do before you die. He says that it will include quirky events, instead of more well-known ones.
