Sun shines down on President’s Day

For once, good news from Alnwick Bowling Club on Saturday as Michael Grant was able to have his President’s Day.

The sun shone as Michael’s side took on the past president’s team of Michael Inkster.

But there was no joy on the green as Michael’s side ran out comfortable winners.

At a buffet meal afterwards in the clubhouse, presentations were made to treasurer Russ Dale, green-keeper and green ranger Roger Turnbull and George Turner, match secretary George Batey and secretary David Quean. There were also presentations made to Sylvia Dale, Vivien Shepherd, Sylvia Taylor and Carol Hume.

There was no joy for the men in the leagues this week.

They were hammered at The Fossway on Tyneside 12-0 in the Clegg Cup.

The Nines went down 6-2 at home to Walker.

In the North Northumberland League, Alnwick had a 6-2 victory at Rothbury and are in second place.

In the English County Bowling Association singles the clash of the Alnwick players saw John Hume come out on top 21-12 against George Batey.

Northumberland’s bid to get to Worthing in the Middleton Cup ended at Nottingham on Saturday when they were just edged out by Derby.
